Our Family's Newsletter for 1999

Dear Friends

This Christmas we would like to wish you the very best and hope that the Next Millennium will bring you health and happiness, and that at least some of your dreams will come true.

We have finished this Millennium with a very hectic year, but it has been really rewarding. For those of our friends who we have not recently been in touch, our apologises, but we would like to tell you all what we got up to during 1999.

The year started in January when we were a family of three, with one dog, one hamster and some fish, with a new baby due in June. By mid January it was all change, we were expecting twins, this in turn meant action stations, and as Jacob would only be 18 months old, we needed more space and to improve on Jacob’s walking skills – no more pushchair! Matt began work on a playroom extension, which is brilliant and has made a huge difference. Amazingly it was finished just before the twins arrived.

Philip and Rebecca were born in May, when Jacob was nearly 17 months old. Since then we have not stopped. Jacob has got on really well with both of them, and settled in to being an excellent big brother and little helper. It was hard at first with Matt working his busiest summer at Bluebird Restaurant and the twins only letting us have four hours sleep maximum, but soon everyone settled down.

By September the Twins were sleeping all night, and Jacob was toilet trained (his decision not ours! but a definite way of getting our attention). Rebecca and Philip were starting on solids, and our first big social event - the Christening – that was very hectic!

In November another addition to the family, this time a stray budgie, which Jacob named tweet-tweet. Philip and Rebecca both got their first 2 teeth, and Jacob grew up even more and moved from the cot to the top bunk (– he told us the bottom one was for Philip and Rebecca – who could argue it would be one day!)

Jacob is now firmly established into trains, his favourite being James, but he can recognise most of the engines from the Thomas the Tank Engine series. When he is not playing trains, he is helping his Dad building, as Matt again as started another project – he is altering the lounge/dinner into a kitchen/diner by building and knocking down walls. There is just not enough room for three high chairs.

The Millennium will be ending for us with a special Christmas, as it is our first Christmas day as a family, when Matt hasn’t got to work, and would you believe he is off for New Year’s Eve too. We are celebrating from 6 p.m with a party for Jacob and his friends to celebrate his 2nd Birthday, and then a party for family and friends to bring in the New Year. (Please let us know if you would like to join us!)

That’s all for now, but I hope that the family will get to visit you during the next Millennium, or maybe you will visit us. Meanwhile we wish you all the best and have a wonderful year.
